Sonoma Valley Chardonnay

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

kopriva is a family name that, translated, means “nettle” in Czech. The Cassidy Ranch farm, where we live and grow our grapes, has multiple strands of nettle growing along the creek bed. We have memories of being stung when we were children, but the nettle, which grows ubiquitously throughout the northern hemisphere, has been used for centuries because of its medicinal, nutritional and physical properties, including as a treatment for Arthritis in some European countries. The nettle is just one of the native plants we actively encourage to grow on our farm. Propagating native plants is beneficial to the ecology of the vineyard and part of kopriva’s dedication to preserving the land for future generations.
